Once Upon The Internet...

So how do you deal with non-human entities on the internet? If you're on deviantArt there are a number of ways to defend ones self, such as liberal use of the block function. However, some of us (myself included) wind up being barraged with personal attacks every day. It happens to everyone, and those it has not happened to have either been 1.) Lucky or 2.) Logged out indefinitely. The internet is essentially land of "every man for himself" (and if you don't believe that, try being a stock artist for a month and being awarded a daily deviation).

We all have lives outside of the internet, which is largely responsible to my absence of late. it can be very difficult to make time for everything without having to deal with negativity. It can be even MORE trying to not take these insults personally. Just remember that :

:bulletgreen: pixels aren't all that offensive and go away when the computer is turned off.
:bulletgreen: Most people that pick on other people do it for a number of reasons, such as: Boredom, jealousy, low intelligence, prejudice, general mischief making, low self esteem, small genitalia, etc.

I recommend applying the following principles when dealing with non-human entities:

1.) Let the energy flow past you. The only way it can affect you is if you let it. Learn to ignore that which does not serve you.
2.) Say that you take art seriously; chances are the troll doesn't. Big troll hands have trouble with shutter releases, wacom tablets, paintbrushes, and big words. When you think about it, it is actually quite funny. Embrace the comedy of the situation. If you opt for the route of comedy, make sure you are fully armed! I highly recommend quotes from Shakespeare, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Some samples:

Application 1: Shakespeare.
Troll: u r ugly plz stop fat ppl shouldn't take picurs of thmslvs
You: You speak unskillfully: or, if your knowledge be more, it is much darkened in your malice.

Application 2: Pirate Treatment
Troll: WHY DID YOU NOT ACCEPT MY SUBMISSION YOU ARE A HORRIBLE SOUL OF ANGER AND CORRUPTION!!! I HOPE YOU LEARN TO GROW UP ONE DAY!!!!one!11!!
You: Yes...but why is the rum gone?

Application 3: Monty Python Treatment
Troll: I'm sorry I just don't like this. Whoever chose the DD's must be blind!
You: Wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more Say. No. More! ;)

Application 4: Get creative!
Troll: I want 2 cum on ur feet
You: Haven't got any feet...all I've got is this albatross. Prithee, do what thou wilt with thy member but be forewarned: moose bytes can be pretty nasti.

The possibilities are quite endless, but there's no reason whatsoever to take these people seriously while they're being hurtful, yeasty codpieces. REMEMBER! The moment you take it seriously is the moment the game is over. Don't let it get to you.

Lol, you made my day. I was asleep and bored, but you made me laugh so much. The shakespearean insulter is the best!! Mostly cause the only answer a troll can give to that is a big "WTF!!". I personally like to go with the Monty Python treatment. Chances are, others will jump into the thread and it will end up being a wonderful collection of nonsensical sentences... and the troll will be left alone chewing its grief out.

Btw, I love your attittude!
